First Love with Lee Min Ho in Singapore

I was swooned off my feet at Lee Min Ho’s First Asian Fan Meeting on 21 December 2009, Monday 8PM held at MAX Pavilion. Literally, by the 1.86m tall suave 22 years old actor!

The doe-eyed boyish actor who won the hearts of many from his role as the F4 leader, Gu Jun Pyo in the Korean blockbuster “Boys over Flowers” was in town for his first Asian Fan meeting with Singapore, as one of its leg. Die hard fans definitely would not miss out the opportunity to see the prince charming in person despite the hefty ticket prices of $98, $148 and $188. Definitely not me ..

Here’s what happened that evening. The concert started at 845pm but no one was complaining waiting for Min Ho. The stage was well designed and brightly lit with 2 specially created letter “M” on each side of the stage – most likely to depict “M”= MINOZ – Min Ho’s Fan Club. There were 2 big screens on each side of the stage with one right in the middle of the stage so that fans would be able get a close-up view of the actor.

The MC that evening was Li Yi, DJ from FM933 who spoke good English. Understood that she has a good command of the Korean language and sure enough, for you can occasionally hear her commenting in Korean sometimes that evening. It was an unforgettable night! The session started with a blast showing past shows and scenes of Min Ho and then with screams and shouts from the almost all female fans welcoming him, Min Ho came on stage … ! As per what the MC commented “such a good looking guy!” Undeniably.

Min Ho spent the evening chatting and sharing with us fans about his recent trip, experiences doing the photo book, pictures of his childhood memories and even drawing and sharing his dream girl with the fans. He had 2 change of clothings that evening, starting with a white semi-casual tux teamed with a black shirt and later, in a beige suit. He revealed that he is in the process of planning for work in January next year and wants to reciprocate his fans with another new piece of work.

The cute Min Ho when young (the one sticking the tongue out!)

Throughout the night, there were fun and games where Min Ho granted fans 3 wishes to fans to take photo, hug and even eye-fight with him. The lucky fans were picked through the earlier deposited question cards in a lucky draw box by Min Ho. One fan even thrown in a question to ask if Min Ho will marry her! The best part was probably the food session where some fans get picked and then hand fed by Min Ho with some of his favourite Korean food – such as Topoki (spicy rice cake), odang (something like “Yong Tau Foo”) and Poki (brown heart shaped biscuit snack). Some had a chance to play Pictionary games with him too. There were also a handful who received phone calls from the actor live in the hall and get to chat to him. Language was no barrier. There was also a cake specially made by fans for Min Ho who shared it with the fans on stage that evening. Those fans were the lucky ones to be able to spend some good time with Min Ho! (p.s. the fans who went on stage - range from school girls to even aunties in their 40s to 50s!) Some were even able to hug and shake hands with him. How envy!

My memory will forever be etched at the climax which was kept till the end of the evening when Min Ho started crooning his song “My Everything”. The whole hall came to a standstill that evening. The atmosphere was so romantic with the lights and crooning. At one point, there were even soapy bubbles being blown all round the hall. It was so dreamy and romantic that I almost melted away in the lovely song crooned by the good looking Min Ho!! More screams and screams from all the girls there. Finally, Min Ho read a letter he wrote addressed to all his fans expressing his gratitude and thanks to all who has been supporting him. What a sweet guy!

It was a great night overall except for the surprises where fans were not properly informed and told about what to do that evening e.g. ping pongs were thrown out into the air and fans were to catch them in exchange for gifts later when all were already very busy cheering Min Ho away; or to search their seats underneath for special cards where fans can exchange them for gifts outside later. All went into a frenzy but unsure of what was happening then. The translator for Min Ho also sounded a bit of a drag to me with her monotonous voice. Sure hope the Organisers would look into this as feedback for future. I also found that there were also insufficient sales of fan merchandises and no concert whistles nor neon light beams were on sale that evening.

However, the suave, ernest and warm Min Ho made up for everything. Seeing him in person is already wonderful indeed. I sure hope he comes back and visit us soon again!
